What is cabachon
In a nutshell its a domed stone designed to catch the light and often in the case of sapphires and rubies and moonstone will create a star in the reflective light.
Normally alluvial stones are used for star stones as contain many inclusions and wont work to be faceted.
Semi precious stone too are generally too soft to take a facet, made by striking a stone making many slices in a stone, things such as moonstone and jade, tend to be almost exclusively made in the cabochons, although through grinding a limited facet can be added to moonstones.
