Victorians and Edwardians were very keen collectors and handy with it too
As pictured pin cushion dollies were sold separated to then have their bodies added as pin cushions made at home.
All sorts of sewing items were made into novelty items to be used as collectors items, such as using a dogs tail as a winder on sewing tape measure.
Wood and metal work tended to be seen as blue jobs and were keenly done as well as things like pyrography using electricity or fire heated pokers to burn a design into a soft wood box, or blotter cover.
Painting of all sorts undertaken by both men and woman, as well the avid almost maniacal collecting of ferns,eggs butterfly insects. A hobby was almost more important than anything else.
Of course we can enter the fun even today by becoming collectors of such genres.
