The Term "Antique Dealer" Is Used Far Too Loosely
The words antique dealer seem to be used more loosely than ever.
Many businesses now describe themselves as antique dealers, yet much of what they sell is only ten, twenty or thirty years old. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that—every item has its place—but let's not confuse vintage, retro and second-hand with genuine antiques.
At Top Banana Antiques, we have a genuine passion for older pieces with history, craftsmanship and character. That's what excites us and what we've specialised in for years.
That doesn't mean we're stuffy or believe antiques belong behind ropes in grand houses. Quite the opposite. We think antiques should be enjoyed, used and lived with every day.
You don't need to be an expert to appreciate a beautiful piece. If you like it, that's reason enough.
We don't look down our noses at anyone or tell people what they should buy. We simply enjoy helping customers discover something with a story to tell.
For us, that's what being an antique dealer is really all about.
