Day to day life of an antiques dealer
Dealers tend to come in 4 types, market traders, auction fans or shop keepers and or house clearers.
Market traders get used to early, drives to markets and fair mostly which start around 6 am, where there is a cut and thrust of trading with other dealers, often margins are tight and cash is king.
Auction buyers and sellers tend to be more solitary again often driving more distances allthough these days I think most click on website and bid this way, easy but expensive many fees to be paid and of course transport afterwards. Unlike our website no auction house website come with any garentees or returns policy very much caveat emptor.
Or the traditional way of having an intresting shop to attract both buers and sellers and whilst buying privatley has its appeal of fresh to market goods the drawer back is having to buy whats offered rather than what one wants.
House clearers are the stuff of legends in the trade wonderful rare items discovered in garden sheds rarely any mention of tons of detritus and rubbish and hard hard work.
So probably a mixture of all 4 works best, however on the whole dealers tend to fall into one of these 4 types as their modus operendi.
