Antique Latter Georgian period Superb Quality Mug in Sterling Silver featured as a traditional styled Chutney Mug later engraved to the body with the legend "Bessie - Elm Cottage 18th April c1886 ILkley", it then being presented to 'Bessie' as a Christening piece in the Victorian period.
The Mug is beautifully crafted, adorned to the convex body with a gallery of chased spade pattern leaves and finished with a half reeded, fern leaf detailed arched handle, stepped and turned roundel foot and gilded interior.
The Mug is in well preserved condition and without holes, dings, damages or repairs, it being in original condition more or less.
The Mug stands 8.3 cm tall and has a width from handle edge to lip of 10.3 cm and a diameter at the brim of 7.5 cm, assay markings are impressed to the neck of the mug indicating Newcastle Assay office circa 1829 with the makers mark for John Walton of Painter Heugh, Newcastle, also present is the London assay mark, comparatively unusual but not unhear of, the piece being re-assayed in London at a later date, also present is the Duty mark for King George IV.
A Fantastic example of the period, this being a scarce find and Museum Quality.
