Antique early 19th century Lovely Quality Hand Painted Silhouette Portrait in Ink by the noted artist John Meirs (c1756 - c1821) of a one 'Mrs Gaye' dated to circa 1807.
The silhouette is realised on Plaster and mounted within a Papier Mache frame with pearwood finished with a Vere Eglomise convex glass dust cover so as to preserve the silhouette within.
This Silhouette was originally one of two (for historical records) and is in excellent condition, there being no fading to the ink or otherwise and the frame being in good order, the silhouette and frame was cleaned and restored at much later point during the early 20th century as per the restorers back board to the reverse of the frame indicating provenance and also displaying the framers/restorers label hailing from Wells, Somerset.
A Handsome and unique piece of art and History measuring in its entirety 15.8 cm x 13.3 cm with a depth of 7 mm, the silhouette 'actual' having a measurement of roughly 5.5 cm x 3.5 cm.
