Antique Late 18th Century Rare Example of a Novelty Enamel Decorated Patch Box featuring as a three dimensional King Charles Spaniel Dog at rest, laying down with face between its paws, the lid to the box being hand detailed with a floral sprig to complete.
Featuring a gorgeous powder blue setting to the King Charles Spaniel which is in classic black and white with painted eyes the lid to the box is in plain milk white with a rich palette used for the flowers.
The Box when closed shut measures 4 cm in diameter and has a depth of roughly 3 cm, the box is displayed upside-down so as to enjoy the full glory of the King Charles Spaniel Dog. A Rare example, one that would make for a fine addition to any collection of period Patch Boxes as well as an addition to a curio cabinet as a display piece.
The Patch Box dates to around circa 1790, shows light age related wear as to be expected but is well preserved for old age.
