Why mid century West German Pottery? By Justin Pike
Why mid century West German Pottery?.
It's a good question, because its not the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of something to collect, and one that is best answered with one word - excitement.
The excitement of browsing an antiques centre or online and finding a piece of WGP when you least expect it.
The excitement of finding a new colour, glaze or even size of a vase,
The excitement of finding a new vase and then going home to find out who made it and when.
That excitement mixed with the myriad of combinations of shape, size, colour and glaze just means there will always be something new to find.
Its a thrill that never gets old.
For me it started after Lockdown 1 having watched one of those "made for TV" antiques shows and seeing something completely different to the run-of-the-mill stuff they seem to buy and it just grabbed my attention.
I can still remember being like a kid in a sweet shop when I found an Emporium with literally hundreds of WGP vases in - I wanted to buy the entire stock.
Some people call it an addiction but there is nothing to beat that feeling of finding something that excites and I hope that shows through in the selection of vases I have on offer, and if not then come back next week because there will always be something new that you haven't seen before and it might just grab your attention and give you the same excitement it gives me.
