What is shakudo
Shakudo is the art of inlay precious metals into bronze or steel.
Before the 1860's these craftsman were employed making menuki and tsubas decoration for samurai swords. Once these were banned then had to diversify into making buckles jewellery and adornments.
Adding invisibly other metals to give a three dimensional textured effect and of course highly detailed is a highly skilled job. Silver gold of all colours bronze and copper were all used to make the pictures, on the items.
