Aesthetic Movement

"Art for arts sake" a pendulum reaction to a more and more mechanised and industrial world created by the mechanisation and mass production by the Victorians.
Rosseti and Morris were amongst the many prominent and indeed up and coming artists who helped forge the aesthetic movement, get started in the c1860 and very much a precursor to the Art Nouveau, New Art and Arts and Crafts movement, who's ethos was hand made, craft and organic flowing design inspired by nature.
As with all things many things influenced the movement including Japan that had recently opened its doors to travel and visitors, and as stated the organic flowing designs of nature.
Simple things like leaves and tendrils were very much at centre of the design with then a repeating design often mixed in with the hint of the orient with a stork or chinoiserie design.
Great field to collect and invest in and items still can be found out there very worth the money.
