Simply a man made textured fibre made to represent fur, and often on these bears from the 1960s or earlier often through too much love! and maybe some abuse and wear and tear, can get thread bear and wear in patches.
So making unloved or so highly prized bears that they were almost kept in a cabinet sought after by collectors.
However i'll let into a secret we love the ones with more character.
