What is a Fob?
No not a brush off, a fob actually is a chain for safety purposes i.e. to stop loss of theft. A pocket watch was attached to a fob (chain), which was in turn fixed via a T bar to ones waistcoat pocket meaning it could be lost of stolen.
Latterly a fob has become has almost changed meaning to be the decorative item that hangs from a watch chain, hence the word fob seal, often a double Albert, made popular by Prince Albert was balanced by using a vesta case or fob seal or just fob which was more often or not a shield shaped plaque of gold or silver often with owners crest or initials, or even sometimes name and address.
Of course the more decorative and impressive the better.
