Wow must of taken hours inlaying all those tiny pieces of mosaic wood, well of course it would.
So the clever folks from Tonbridge, found by making long long strips of a detailed design such as a flower or house or scene. and then slicing finely into small sheets one could then back with linen and use to inlay into all sort of items, boxes and desk items being the most popular.
Just another way the Georgians and Victorian took advantage of mechanisation to progress production of fine items.
