Toledo Ware (Spanish Damascene)
Toledo Ware (Spanish Damascene)
Toledo ware from Spain uses a similar concept of gold inlay into steel, but the style is different.
Features:
-
Produced in Toledo, Spain, a city famous for sword making.
-
Often uses blackened steel backgrounds with bright gold patterns.
-
Designs are usually geometric, Moorish, or arabesque rather than naturalistic.
-
Still produced today for jewellery, plates, and decorative objects.
Although it is often called Damascene, the technique was developed independently in Spain.
