Spot the Reproduction! Easier Than You Think?
Strange, isn't it? One of the first things you so often spot when watching an antiques video is reproduction!
You would think that people making videos about antiques would know the difference. Yet there it is, sitting proudly on display, sometimes being admired as a wonderful antique when it is anything but.
Now, reproduction has its place. If you like the look and don't mind that something is newly made, that's absolutely fine. The problem comes when new goods are confused with genuine antiques, particularly when the price suggests you're buying something with age, history and authenticity.
Recognising the difference takes knowledge and experience. It means looking beyond a pleasing appearance and understanding materials, construction, finishes and the little details that tell the real story.
At Top Banana, we believe genuine antiques deserve to be celebrated for what they are. That's why we don't sell reproduction pretending to be antique. Our dealers know their trade, and our customers can enjoy discovering genuine pieces with real history and character.
So next time you're watching an antiques video, have a closer look. You might be surprised by what jumps out at you!
After all, spotting the difference is part of the fun — and knowing what you're buying is even better.
Top Banana Antiques: the real thing is always worth looking for!
