Precious, semi precious or paste
Paste, not as in sandwich, paste as in glass or white sapphire made to represent diamonds.
5 Precious stones, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and the one everyone forgets is Aquamarine. Why precious? not because they are, but a measure of the hardness, made by extreme pressure underground.
As semi precious list will go on and on, I wont do but many stones, moonstone, topaz, onyx, lapis lazuli, opal, citrine to mention only a few.
Semi precious sounds like something that may come out of tumbler/polisher as you can see not the case, however one thing in general with a few exceptions such as topaz, peridot and citrine, is that semi precious stone cant be cut / faceted as too soft so often are cabochon stones.
