"May god watch over you" or Mizpah

"May god watch over you" or Mizpah

Literally means in Hebrew watch tower, however a great sentiment really quiet similar to a St Christopher.

Of course also a great thing to collect, sometimes Mizpah brooches mixed with other Victorian symbols like an anchor for hope, or a swallow for "I will return" or "safe journey home" making these very popular in and around the First world war for soldiers and sailors.

Can be made of gold of silver and often with semi precious stones such as banded agate etc, sometimes big sometimes small.

The early 20th century ones tend to be more mass produced smaller and in silver with a flash of rose gold, the early mid Victorian one tended often to be in high, 15 and 18ct gold and larger with more detail and stones and hand made and hand finished.

The sentiment encompasses all religions and is not specifically from the Jewish religion even though an Hebrew word, and is actually nothing at all to do with the Bah Mizpah which is for the Jewish male coming of age.
