On this day in 1937 it was raining
You can always count on the good old British weather to rain on important events!.
It was raining on this day, 12th May 1937, Coronation Day for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (who would become the Queen Mother).
It seems King Charles was in good company in regards to the weather on his Coronation Day as not only did it rain on his grandfather but it also rained on the Coronation Day in June in 1953 for his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The date in June was chosen as traditionally the weather would be dry and warm, but on this day in 1953 not only did it rain but it was a cool 11 degrees. Hot water bottles were required in the Golden State carriage to keep the new Queen warm.
I wonder how often it has rained on other Coronation Days, after all there have been 39 held at Westminster Abbey before King Charles.
