Numismatics — it sounds rather complicated, but it simply means the study and collection of coins, currency and related items such as medals and banknotes.
And here at Top Banana, we're rather partial to a good coin.
We have a numismatic expert at the shop and are always interested in buying coins, whether they're made of gold, silver, bronze, copper or other metals.
It isn't just the precious metal that matters, either. A coin can be worth considerably more than its metal content because of its age, rarity, condition, history, design or simply the fact that collectors want it.
A small coin can have an enormous story behind it. It might have passed through hundreds of hands, survived wars and revolutions, travelled across countries and kingdoms — and eventually ended up in a drawer, an attic or a box that hasn't been opened for fifty years!
So if you've inherited a collection, found an old coin amongst your belongings, or simply have a few pieces you'd like to know more about, bring them into Top Banana.
