Lost wax

Nothing to do with Peter Pan and the lost boys, a method of casting silver, and metal.

After making a detailed wax model of the item you want to cast, which being soft can be carved, chased and worked into really detailed designs, you cover either in clay or more likely in a casting box of super fine sand, pour into the mold at top and allow the wax to come out of the bottom and as wax melts the metal fills the gaps created by the wax.

It is likely some after work will be needed like cleaning the metal adding fine detail etc, more often than not silver tends to be pressed into molds from fine sheets and then welded into 2 halves, however gold tends to use the lost wax system as it allows fine detail with less use of fine metal.
