Fums up or touch wud
OK I know spelling not my strongest point, however these little charms come from the First World War, for good luck from the expression "touch wud " and "fums up" obviously a good luck sign.
They all have a wooden bead head often painted the fums ups can come in brass, silver or even gold depending on who was able to avoid them.
A great little piece of social history, "old bill" was a sardonic fellow from the trenches who too had charms made in all three metals. Charms are great fun to collect and actually fums up etc are fairly rare we have several dealers in Top Banana Antiques who search hard for them.
Do look on www,topbananaantiques.com to see what we have.
