Diamonds Are Forever... But
For decades, the diamond market was built on scarcity. The famous slogan "A Diamond Is Forever" helped convince generations that diamonds were not only beautiful but valuable.
Then came lab-grown diamonds.
Chemically and visually identical to natural diamonds, they can now be produced in large quantities and sold for a fraction of the price. As production has increased, prices have fallen dramatically. This has changed the ordinary diamond market forever.
However, not all diamonds are equal.
Large, high-quality natural diamonds remain genuinely scarce. Only a small percentage of mined diamonds ever produce polished stones of over one carat with the colour, clarity and cut that buyers seek.
At Top Banana, we prefer reality to fantasy. Instead of pretending every diamond ring is worth thousands, we price according to today's market.
As a result, customers can often buy a genuine one-carat natural diamond ring from us for around £1,600, compared with £4,000 or more on the traditional High Street. Many attractive natural diamond rings can also be found for around £300.
Lab-grown diamonds will continue to put pressure on ordinary commercial diamond prices. But the finest natural diamonds remain a finite resource. Nobody is making any more of them.
Lab-grown diamonds have changed the jewellery market forever. But rarity still matters. The finest natural diamonds remain scarce, desirable and impossible to manufacture.
Diamonds may be forever — but only truly rare diamonds have a chance of holding their value.
