Connemara not just for horses
The Connemara mountains gave birth to this Irish, tourist souvenir, all sorts of lucky charms were carved out of this softer jade / soapstone type product and with many of these stones softer when first dug from the ground.
The Irish were quick to capitalise on the new Victorian tourist trade with many handy craft items such as bog oak, Connemara marble, and Kilnarney wear a quarter veneer inlaid wooden boxes and desk items of local tourist sites, as well fools gold pyrites items and Irish crystal jewellery too.
Fun too collect and not so easy to find now although there is gold in them hills its just finding it. We at Top Banana Antiques regularly find Irish items of jewellery, and normally have several examples on www.topbananaantiques.com
