Chatelaine
Like so many English and American words, we have used a French word to name a very useful household aid, used by housekeepers and a like. Effectively a set of useful tools on a chain or laniyard.
Normally dainty tools such as sewing tools keys, scissors, note pads etc, and of course like all things depending on the status of the wearer can be functional such as steel or cut steel more decorative or then in silver and gold with extra details such as flowers or animals, jewels and enamels.
In themselves became fashion items, and influencing clothes design as there items were intended to be hung from a belt. Now eminently collectable and look great as collections on a wall or a cabinet.
