Flat back and over glaze

Flat back and over glaze

The flat back shown clearly explain what over glaze means , the figure has a flat back so its sits well on a mantle shelf.

The figure is first fired then glazed in clear glaze and re fired and then after this the emamel paint is put on by vaious degrees of talent by a status system of painter doing more and more difficualt areas such as the face needing finer detail.

Then fired for the third time certain colur such a green tended to eb less stable and there for chip off as the smooth glazed surface doesnt make a good key.

If a figure is not painted on top of the glaze then almost certainly not an antique original antique item.

When you look at this you can see clearly the good quality of the decoration.
