August Klein maker of amazing book boxes for the the last Kaiser of Austria
The kaiser needed a present for visiting dignitaries etc, he decided to use August Klien to make the Austrian equivalent of the Faberge egg.
I suspect originally the boxes may of contained a visitors book or similar memento of visit c1890 to 1900.
This box is made from lime-wood black forest carvings of game animal at each corner with a central boss, burr walnut, lapis lazulia, granite, gilded brass, hand tooled leathers, other semi precious stones and woods, lined in velvet, of the most amazing quality and detail.
August Klein almost exclusively worked for the kaiser and these book boxes were his signature item, the work is amazing this box needs some professional love but it is worth putting the effort into.
