Adding the 'Bling' with Antiques
How many times have you looked at a room in your house and wished that it could look more like those glossy photos in magazones like House and Garden, or Elle Decoration ?
The answer is placing a little 'bling' in the right spot using antique pieces. Browsing for these special accent items can be fun and a much better investment than a purchase from a furnishing company that will end up in a skip or charity shop in ten years.
Adding just one special thing will give life and colour to what might have been a very ordinary scheme.
If you have a wall to dress in a large room full of smart modern furniture or a hallway, a pair of Ventian style 'Blackamoor' figures standing lamps would give the 'wow' factor and will look stunning either side of a console mirror.
Having a smaller room to dress, furniture with a touch of gilt or a marble top cabinet wiil have the desired effect, and will also be practical and usable at the same time.
To give interest why not acquire an ancestor? Antique portraits come in all sizes and price ranges, they just have to have the kind of face that you can adopt as one of the family..
Using vintage pieces or antiques to give that special touch can be enjoyable and very rewarding. Happy hunting!
