Japanese Bronze Dragon Adorned Candlestick Antique Tokugawa Edo Period circa 1700

Vinces Vault

VVV240192.T

Antique Japanese Mid Edo/Tokugawa period circa 1700 Top Quality Hand Made Bronze Candle Holder / Candlestick later mounted to a wooden base in the traditional three footed style, a free standing piece with Shinto  connotations including the relief detailed figure of a dragon wrapped around the collar of the stick below which is a foliate gallery wrap and grotesques below which is a gallery of Tsunami waves, the three legs to the candlestick below being finished with what appear to be Tengu heads, the scrolled leg supports their tongues.

In Overall good condition but suffering an area of damage to one foot at the terminal revealing a later threaded bolt fitting securing the wooden base to the bronze platform the candlestick rises from (please see photograph no.5) no doubt a silly accident when the wooden base was drilled and then mounted to the bronze platform at some point in its life during the 20th century, also the spike fitting to the flat top of the candlestick is missing so will need to be restored.
The Candlestick stands 25 cm tall or 9.8 inches with a candle sconce diameter of 11.5 cm or 4.5 inches.
A Lovely surviving example of the period, would benefit from a little attention but is otherwise still useable as well as making for a fantastic decorators piece for the home.
