Antique High Victorian Period Top Quality Sterling Silver Mounted Pate or Butter Spreader of an ornate design finished with a half closed gallery of engraved floral work to the terminal, the reverse of which is floral chevroned finished with a turned collar which meets the tablet carved bone handle.
In Very good condition for old age the spreader is without dings, holes or damage and there is no spacing at the collar bolster, measuring 19 cm in length the sterling silver fitting to the spreader is impressed with good clear markings indicating Birmingham assay office circa 1872 with the makers mark for Hilliard & Thomason of Spencer Street, Birmingham, also present is the Duty Mark for Queen Victoria.
