This Royal marines crest badge consists of 2 Lions and a Crown and denotes a Royal regiment. King George III conferred this honour in 1802 "in consideration of the very meritorious services of the Marines in the late war." The "Great Globe itself" surrounded by laurels was chosen by King George IV as a symbol of the Marines' successes in every quarter of the world. The Royal Marines are a component part of the Naval Service which encompasses the Royal Navy and other units. The Corps Crest comprises 6 elements: The Lion and Crown, Gibraltar, The Globe, The Laurels, Fouled Anchor and Per Mare Per Terram. This crest badge is offered in good vintage condition with some scuffing to the circular crest in the middle of the two lions.
