Antique Early 19th Century Georgian Period Rare Example of a Novelty Pocket Vinaigrette Shaped after the likeness of a Purse of indeed a small Bag, finished hand turned patterning to resemble leather stitching and a vacant oblong cartouche for engraving the Vinaigrette opens at the mouth on a piano hinged lid to reveal a traditional interior with ornate pierced and hinged Grille fretted with a floral panel of Violet Flowers.
In Very good condition, the Vinaigrette being without holes, splits or repairs and only a couple of small barely noticeable bruises to the underside it will make for a wonderful addition to any collection of period vinaigrettes, marked clearly to the interior for Birmingham assay office circa 1816 with the makers mark 'IS', also present is the Duty mark for King George III.
The Vinaigrette when closed shut measures 3 cm x 2 cm x 1 cm in dimension.
