Vintage / Retro circa 1940's English Art Deco Styled Mantle Clock by 'Smiths' manufactured in Brown Bakelite, a Key Wound pendulum affair with a smiths own verge escapement in Working order, running strong and keeping time.
The Clock features a black enamel Arabic Dial on white matted halo finished with gold metal hour and minute hands with key winding stud at '6' O'clock, the dial sits beneath hinged convex glass within a gilded metal bezel, Of a handsome shape the clock back features a vented swing door allowing one access to the movement palette and pendulum feature as well as regulator for adjusting the beat of the clock movement, movement palette is in brass and is impressed with the makers mark for 'Smiths Clock Co - made In Great Britain' (as with the dial),.
The Clock stands 18.5 cm tall or 7.2 inches with a case width and breadth of 20 cm and 10 cm respectively or 7.8 inches by 3.9 inches and is presented with original Smiths Enfield winding key and pendulum as well as with original instruction leaflet making this to be quite a complete surviving piece.
Overall condition is good, light age related wear and a nibble to the Bakelite to the upper right edge all commensurate with handling over the years.
makes for a pleasing example of the period, a fine decorators piece and a good time teller.
