Antique circa 1900 Pictorial Lidded Trinket Box as a Souvenir piece commemorating the building of the Famous Port Said in Egypt, established in circa 1859 at the building of the Suez Canal,, the lid to the box delivering the subject in the form of a hand painted pictorial of Port Said during the period beneath a heavy cut glass mount, the side walls to the casket feature bevelled pressed glass panes as so as to serve as viewing windows and bring light to a stored jewel within.

Interestingly, Rudyard Kipling once said "If you truly wish to find someone you have known and who travels, there are two points on the globe you have but to sit and wait, sooner or later your man will come there: the docks of London and Port Said".

In Good condition the box features Rococo Overtones including pyramidal details to the shoulders and stylised Cabriole legs, the box lid is hinged and is intact with clasp fitting to the lip on one side, the interior to the box retains original, albeit age worn button back padded Silk cushion for displaying a prized trinket or jewel.

A lovely period collectible trinket box measuring 7.5 x 6 x 5.5 cm in dimension or 2.9 x 2.3 x 2.1 inches in dimension.
