Antique Early 19th Century Mourning / Memento Mori Ring in 18ct Yellow Gold finished with Black Enamel, a simple mourning band sizing to a U.K 'S' with a band width of 8 mm, decorated to the outer shank in gold relief on black enamel with the legend "Mary Billingsley OB 17th July 1808 Age 67".
In good antique condition, slight wear to the enamel, nothing serious, no repairs or holes to the gold construction of the ring, retains good clear impressed marks to the inner shank indicating Sheffield Gold 18ct (750) London assay office circa 1808 with the makers mark 'SG', also present is the duty mark for King George III.
The ring will benefit from a gentle clean but is otherwise ready to be worn, one that makes for a fine addition to any collection of period mourning jewellery.
