Antique Late 18th Century Georgian Period Sterling Silver Sugar Basket in Superb Condition, this scarce example being very well preserved for old age and in original condition more or less.

Featured as a single Footed, convex half egg pattern basket which is detailed to the hinged carry handle, stepped foot and rim with a reeded pattern, the body to the basket is finished to both sides with an Engraved Cartouche in the form of a Swag gallery enclosing an octagonal plaque, one side being detailed with the Crest image of a stylised Phoenix.

The underside to the foot of the basket is impressed with good clear markings indicating London assay office circa 1789 along with the makers mark for the noted Henry Chawner, also present is the Duty Mark for King George III.

The Basket with handle relaxed stands 11 cm tall or 4.4 inches and has a width and breadth of 16 cm and 9.2 cm or 6.25 inches and 3.8 inches respectively.

Makes for a Wonderful antique collectible piece of English Silver ware, perfect as a display piece, as an addition to a collection of rare Period Silver or indeed for use as it will serve for a variety of purposes.

The basket weighs 218 grams or just over 7 Ounces Troy.
