Antique Victorian period circa 1880's Lovely Quality Pocket Barometer in gilded brass presented in original purpose-built leather clad hard case.
The Barometer features a silvered dial with Black Enamel Display featuring a full analogue reading as well as a revolving bezel in full working order for ascertaining relevant air pressure, the dial features the makers mark Legend "J. Coombes - Devonport" along with the legend 'Surveying Aneroid Compensated" indicative of Quality engineering and retains needle patten blued steel indicator arm.
The Barometer case is intact with squat stem and suspension bale to the top so as to serve for when carrying about the person as a fob item or hanging from a wall or similar for viewing.
The Barometer case shows only light age-related wear, there are no dings, damage or repairs and the original crystal to the dial is in very good order, gilding to the back plate still retains a rich colour, back plate is hand engraved with the original owners namesake "C. J . Hodgson"
The Barometer case excluding stem and bale measures 6.8 cm in diameter with a case depth of 2.8 cm,.
There are obvious signs of wear present to the leather clad hard case to the barometer, pushbutton fitting will not catch to the case lid due to age old rubbing, hinged spine is loose, all commensurate with 140 years of age and wear, the blue silk lining to the case interior however is in relatively condition.
