Antique Latter 18th Century Georgian Period Superb and Quite Unique Memento Mori Mourning Locket cased in Gold (unmarked and untested but no doubt of a high carat) featured as a traditional convex oval affair the locket front is inset beneath crystal glass with the superb hand painted Memento Mori Pictorial Scene in Enamel on Alabaster as Ode to a lost Father, enclosed within a gallery of eight point cut Jet stones 60 in number the pictorial features a representation of a Mourning Daughter with long locks, dressed in Grecian Robes knelt by a Tree with boughs before a three dimensional 'raised' broken Corinthian Pillar in sorrow, drying one eye with a corner of her garment, the pedestal to the Pillar features the legend "In memory of A Much Lov'd Father" and is detailed with a closing gallery of diamond chips, the fallen pillar upon the mossy floor below terminates with a Funerary Urn, the scene is then finished with the figure of a Winged Herald wearing Lion Cloth, pointing above to the heavens as to the Daughter below as a reminder to wipe away ones tears of sorrow and find joy as we all pass through the veil to be reunited and reborn in paradise at end of time through the immortal soul, this is confirmed with a scroll above the Herald that reads "Weep Not it Falls To Rise Again". .
