Antique Early 19th Century Georgian period Fantastic example of a Gentleman's Pocket Vinaigrette in Sterling Silver Gilt, featured as a lozenge style vinaigrette detailed to the exterior including both hinged lid and underside with a closed gallery turned pattern and to the side walls with a reeded pattern very much after the pages of a book.
In Overall good condition for age, some bleeding through of the silver to the edges on the gilt commensurate with age and handling, hinged lid responds well and when opened to reveal the fretted and pierced trap door similarly responding well on hinge, gilding is intact throughout to the interior which is verbatim impressed with markings indicating London assay office circa 1813 with the makers mark for William Edwards, a Small workers whom specialised in Buttons and Vinaigrettes, also present is the duty mark for King George III.
The Vinaigrette when closed shut measures 3.7 cm x 2.7 cm x 1.3 cm in dimension or 1.45 x 1.06 x 0.51 inches.
A handsome example of the period and a fabulous addition to the collection as well as still being perfectly useable.
Weight : 26.1 grams or 0.83 Ounces Troy.
