Antique Late 18th century Lovely Quality (albeit aged and worn) Pocket Magnifying Glass mounted in a reeded silver folding frame housed within a silver mounted faux Tort casing, a handsome, original and rare surviving piece and of a good size measuring 8 cm x 6.5 cm x 8 mm in dimension or 3.2 inches x 2.5 inches x 0.25 inches when closed shut, the magnifying lens feature folds out for use simply by pulling on the proud catch to the side of the frame, magnifying glass to the frame is oval shaped, shows some flea bites to the edge but is still fully functional, the silver frame to the lens has a few knocks and dings but is intact and without repairs and the frame and mounts to the case have a wonderful aged patina but could be cleaned to a high shine if desired as could the faux tort casing,
Dating to around circa 1790 this fantastic example would likely have been used by an Entomologist enthusiast, studying the fauna of the land when it was once rich with a myriad of species for study.
makes for a superb collectible Antique piece as well as still being perfectly useable.
(There are no markings to either the frame or silver fittings but they have tested positive for silver).
