Antique Late 18th Century Top Quality Pair of Sugar Nips (tongs) detailed to the outer shank with bright cut and floral etched patterning including an enclosing cartouche at the apex of the spine to the tongs engraved with the letter 'H' in a scrolled font, the terminals to the tongs are in the acorn pattern.
In Very good condition, albeit in need of a clean and polish as there is tarnishing present, the tongs retain a smooth but form movement an are in undamaged condition, measuring 14.5 cm in length the tongs are impressed to the inner shanks with markings indicating London assay office circa 1798 with the makers mark for Peter & Ann Bateman, also present is the duty mark for King George III.
