Woolsack races Tetbury
A massive annual event this year we are expecting over 250,000 people, a massive boost to the whole town, not just the pubs amd resturants.
Almost having the atmosphere of a festival, there will be food and drink galore with lots of catering on the streets.
We too will have stalls out on the pavement in front of shop.
Started in the 17th century the official version has been a fixture for the last 30 years. Teams of men and woman run between the Gumstool inn and the Royal oak, up the famous Gumstool hill steps. Carrying a large sack of sheep wool which is what Tetbury made its money from in the 18th and 19th century, men 60lbs 27kg woman 30lbs 14kg and children appropriate sized sacks too.
Always held on Whitsun weekend on bank holiday Monday , the 27th of May . Top Banana Antiques 1 New Church Street at the quiet end of town away from the race will be open all day.
