What is Chinoiserie
Effectively chinoiserie is a later version of japanning, which was lacquered with Japanese or oriental figures often following the willow pattern decoration.
The main difference is that with chinoiserie decoration is the decoration tended to be raised by using plaster to give a 3D effect. Very popular in the 1930's black being the most common background but green red and blue were also used and whole rooms all furniture doors etc were covered with this effect.
Nice useful card box pictured we do have other items but loved by American dealers so tends to sell quickly.
