What is cinnabar lacquer
Those of you who said lacquer from cinnabar, minus one point. As with most lacquer its layer after layer of varnish.
However, this lacquer with paint pigment added and then after 100s of layers done and dried it is craved though to make designs in the lacquer.
Tending to come from Asia and particularity from Japan, early items can really bring on very high prices indeed. Item pictured is from the 1920 but can easily go back to the early 18th century.
Of course far from common.
