We see no ships , well in fact no customers on social media posts of fairs

We See No Ships — And No Customers Either

Walk into some antiques fairs these days and the first thing you notice isn’t the grandeur of the setting or the buzz of eager buyers — it’s the silence. Stalls sit idle, dealers chat to each other, and the few souls wandering the aisles look more like they’re killing time than hunting treasures. The customers aren’t there, and honestly, it’s no wonder.

Scroll through the fair’s social media beforehand and the story is the same: endless photos of tired, unsellable stock. Chip-edged glassware that’s been on tour since 1998, faded prints nobody ever wanted, “quirky” curios that belong in a car boot sale, not a commercial antiques event. You can’t entice serious collectors with stalls that look like attic clearances — and even the boot sales themselves seem more bereft of buyers than ever.

Here at Top Banana, we do things differently. Yes, we have rooms available for new dealers, but the shop as a whole is brimming with genuinely commercial, sensibly priced antiques — guaranteed all vintage or antique, never modern knock-offs. It’s a place where buyers actually buy, because what’s on offer is worth their time. Until more fairs take that approach, expect the only thing in plentiful supply to be empty aisles and the echo of opportunity lost.
