When giving a present on Valentines day the traditional symbol has always been the heart and an arrow. Even mentioned in song where 'Çupid shot an arrow through my heart'.
Cupid in classical mythology was the son of Venus, goddess of love and Mars the god of war. It was said that if Cupid shot an arrow through your heart that you would fall hopelessly in love with whoever he chose for you.
