Piquet
Name for inlaying of fine decorative hand chased silver into tortoiseshell, which is another misnomer as actually turtle shell.
The combination of finely worked silver with the normally chocolate brown shell looks great on boxes and more often than not dressing table items such as jars and brushes etc.
Whilst mostly in silver the same process can be done in gold and as these items are both wafer thin means a lot of decoration for not much cost in precious metal, Although the work element of course is very skilled.
