Mine cut or rose cut?
Mine cut diamonds or rose cut, same name, are hand cut facetted diamonds normally about a dozen facetts.
These are dressed i.e. hit with chisel along natural fault lines to create a facett or slice to the stone, thereby allowing more light into the diamond and making in sparkle more.
Approx 96 facetts make up a brilliant cut stone. Mine / rose cut diamonds normally tend to be before 1840 and more often or not from the Georgian period. Again more often or not mounted in silver, earlier items tended not to be platinum which became more popular in the 1900's. The white coloured metal again attracting more light into the diamond, in turn to make more sparkle.
Please be aware that in particular with Indian copies nowadays the artisans who have used the same technics for years reproduce copy items with mine cut stones, because often they can get a large table area i.e. the face of the diamond out of a shallow stone, giving the effect of a large stone. A carat of diamond is a weight not a size.
