Knife box- funny as not just for knives
These boxes were used in most fine dining rooms and were for silver cutlery, not only knives.
It meant that your cutlery was safely divided and easy to find and place on dining table quickly and easily, often later on they were converted to desk tidy's stationary racks etc.
often in larger house these came in pairs so they could hold enough place settings. Good looking items in their own right.
