Flatware or holloware
Sort of self explanatory, flat ware covers all eating and serving ware placed on a table. Knives forks spoons etc, as well as serving items.
Holloware effectively items that can contain either liquid or food, such as tea pots, jugs tureens etc.
Interestingly in America cutlery or flatware is called silver ware whether it be sterling silver or not.
The addition even of the odd serving spoon or silver tea spoon used for mustard or condiments really adds to the special ness of a dinner or luncheon table. Mustard spoon can be easily brought for as little as £10 and a good serving spoon for £40 a pair even better but not expensive.
