'Dydd Santes Dwynwen' -Celebrating Welsh Valentines Day

If valentines day on February 14th fills you full of dread with overpriced roses and restaurants crammed like sardines, then perhaps you should consider moving your loving gestures to January 25th instead.  On this day in Wales they celebrate St Dwynwen's day (the Welsh equivalent to St Valentine) by giving hand-carved lovespoons and other small tokens to each other as a sign of affection. It is a great way to beat the chaotic Valentine cafe's and acquire new tableware at the same time!

Interestingly, the rest of the year St Dwynwen also doubles up as the patron saint of sick animals.
